credit-ratingUnfortunately, if your credit rating has suffered due to less than desirable consumer behavior such as missed payments and collections account, it can be difficult to obtain credit and even the best interest rate on the services that you are applying for. To kick your credit rating up a notch is possible, but it is important for the consumer to realize that this process is not going to occur overnight. This is a process that takes time and should be looked upon as a task that can be completed in a series of steps.

First, obtain a copy of the credit report. The credit report will give you a variety of information including the credit score and any other information which can be found on the report. This report is an essential part of preparedness and can lead the consumer to better understanding of why the score has suffered.

Next, check the score for any mistakes. If there are mistakes on the credit score, it is entirely possible that removing these mistakes will have a positive effect on the credit rating. Simply contacting the creditor that is listed on the credit report can often yield positive results to correct a mistake that has appeared on the credit rating.

Be sure to keep any accounts that have developed substantial history open. This history accounts for up to thirty percent of the credit score and is a substantial part of the report. Using a combination of these methods you can clean up the credit report and hopefully increase the credit score.
